Our Story
HC Smith Ltd began with Dr. Herbert Smith.
Herb built the firm around a deep understanding of leadership, human capacity, and organizational life. From its earliest years, HC Smith Ltd approached executive search as more than placement. The work required discernment: understanding the organization, the role, the culture, the leadership mandate, and the conditions that would allow a leader to succeed.
That foundation still guides the firm.
Under the leadership of Becca Smith, HC Smith Ltd continued to grow as a trusted executive search and advisory partner for organizations across nonprofit, arts and culture, civic, professional services, communications, marketing, and mission-driven sectors. The firm’s work has always carried a relational discipline: listen closely, understand the context, honor the people in the process, and help clients make better leadership decisions.
As organizations have become more complex, the work has expanded.
